Faith to Stand in the Gap—by Jacques Genis

July 25, 2022

Sermon summary:

Ezekiel 22:30 God is looking for someone who will stand in the gap even if it's uncomfortable, inconvenient.

Where does this faith come from?

The engine room of faith= proximity, closeness, connection and walking closely with Jesus, guided by his Spirit.

Genesis 6:9, 22 Noah walked faithfully with God; he did everything just as God commanded him.

Moses stood in the gap, and was the signpost for the Messiah.

Hebrews 11:25–27 He saw him who is invisible. When we truly see God, his magnificence, wonder.

Small steps of faith=with small consistent actions that seem insignificant, don't despise small beginnings.

Mark 1:40–45 The leper took the first step in faith towards healing.

The future is shaped by everyday decisions we make.

Faith that perseveres. James 1:12 Despite discomfort, perseverance is messy and should not be done alone.

1 Corinthians 15: 38 your labour in the Lord is not in vain.

We all start out the same way, fearfully and wonderfully made by God. The question is: How do you want your life story to play out? God's goodness pursues us. And while things in life won't work out just because you pray, the cross is the greatest evidence of God's goodness. What will you allow him to do in your life?

Yada is a Hebrew word that means "to know". God reveals himself to us through his power, his loving kindness, his word, Holy Spirit and forgiveness. The cross is the ultimate expression of God's love for us.

The Hebrew word "yada" means "to know" from the heart or by experience. While the word "relationship" is not in the Bible, it permeates the scriptures. God knows our hearts and our thoughts. We get to know him by being broken, humble, completely open and by making it our goal to know him.
