Jesus the Teacher, Part 4 - by Solly Kganyago
Sermon recap:

Teaching one another is an essential part of discipleship. Jesus modelled experiential learning through obedience to the Father’s will (John 6:38) and taught that love for God is demonstrated by keeping his commands (John 14:15–17, 23). Since we cannot give what we do not have, effective teaching begins with personally living out God’s Word. The Great Commission calls believers to teach others to obey everything Christ commanded (Matthew 28:18–20).
Teaching occurs at different levels: disciple-to-disciple relationships, public teaching from the pulpit, and designated teachers entrusted with preserving sound doctrine (2 Timothy 2:2). All teaching must faithfully communicate God’s truth rather than personal opinions.
To teach accurately, we must practice exegesis—drawing meaning from Scripture—rather than eisegesis, which imposes our own ideas on the text. Teachers should understand context, distinguish between descriptive and prescriptive passages, and identify timeless biblical principles. Because teachers are accountable before God (James 3:1), their goal must be to lead others into faithful obedience and spiritual maturity.
